Well Well Sports Fans. The NBA Finals came and went but not without giving us the excitement that the Championship series is supposed to deliver. Two of the NBA’s most historic franchises faced off to deliver another classic that only adds to the luster of this long respected rivalry between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. The Celtics looked to be in charge after game #5 heading back to LA with a 3-2 lead, but Kobe and the boys were ready and knew the hometown faithful would have their backs and create an atmosphere in the Staples Center that any team would have a tough time winning in.
Every game in this historic matchup seemed pivitol as each team won in fashions and gained momentum that made the series appear to be over. Time and time again the down team bounced back whether it be from a big loss in the previous game or from a big halftime deficit. With it all knotted up at 3-3 it all came down to a defensive struggle and the team that could best weather the storm of a long NBA Season and playoffs. The Celtics put up a great fight but a key injury to Kendrick Perkins in Game 6 seemed to be the window of opportunity that the Lakers would take advantage of on their way to NBA Supremacy. The Lakers depth of healthy players seemed to wear down the elder Celtics as the series progressed allowing Paul Gasol to be the X-Factor in this matchup as time and time again he created huge defensive problems for the Celtics in the paint with his uncanny shot making ability and the agility that most big men in the game don’t possess. Without Paul Gasol the Lakers may noy have been in the Finals.
The amazing Story of Kobe Bryant continues as he wins another NBA Title and Finals MVP. The only thing left to wonder about Kobe is will be surpass Jordan’s numbers and how many more titles can he add to his trophy case before he hangs them up.
The Phil Jackson Legacy continues as the Zen Master wins another one. With so many titles and a resume that includes the bucket list of half the world, what’s left for Phil Jackson to play for other than titles and is it enough to keep him passionate about coaching and with the Lakers?
Derek Fisher is a success story within itself as his steady back court leadership allows Kobe Bryant to postion himself in places on the court where he can dominate, and when they needed a big shot how many times did his high arching 3 bring the Laker fans to their feet when things seemed dismal? Fisher has to be your unsung hero of 2010 Lakers.
Ron Artest finally got his title and seemingly more self awareness as he he repeatedly thanked everyone for sticking with him from coaches, teammates, psychiatrists and his hood. It was as if Artest had a heavy burden lifted off his shoulder and wanted everyone to know how grateful he was to be a champion. He also gave a shoutout to his hood and plugged his upcoming new album that he plans to release soon. Hopefully this isn’t the reimegence of the old Artest and just him showing his exuberance of being the NBA Champs.
Next for the NBA is where will all the Franchise free agents end up and what is the future of the Boston Celtics as Paul Pierce options out of his deal to join the pool of the free leaving behind an aged, wounded ball club. Stay Tuned…
