Sheraton Hawaii Bowl
Everyone in the islands was anticipating this years Sheraton Hawaii Bowl and chance to see the Warriors take advantage of a seemingly wounded Notre Dame football team. Instead what the 40,000+ fans witnessed was what happens when you corner a wild animal, something you may not be able to handle.
From play #1 it seemed as though we saw a totally different Fighting Irish team than the sports fans all around the world witnessed during the regular season. Notre Dame played with a purpose. Whether it was to salvage the employment status of Fighting Irish head coach Charlie Weiss of strictly for pride, it was a royal Christmas Eve Spanking.
I guess the real gift for UH fans was the mere fact that the Warriors actually made it to post season play after starting the season 1-3, and then later in the season losing to one of the worst teams in the WAC, Utah State. Let’s keep it real, all season we’ve talked about and witnessed the lack of real Div I talent at various positions for the Warriors, so when a team who signs the top Blue Chippers in the country year after year what do you expect?
Notre Dame passed for more than 400 yards, they had big plays on offense and special teams, plus the Warriors offense was invisible at various times throughout the game. This was a total mismatch and is a wake up call that recruiting has to major focus if the Warriors want to compete in post season appearances.
