Aloha Football Nation! The 2011 NFL Season is over but not without an amazing finish as the New York Giants and Eli Manning proved to the world that they are indeed worthy of being crowned Champions. Despite their horrific mid- season stumble where they lost 4 straight finding themselves at .500 twice after starting out 6-2, the Giants rallied together and believed that they had what it takes if they just could win out. That late season rally and winning big games both on the road and away created an atmosphere where every player and coach believed there is no other outcome but victory.

Hawaii Gridiron League

Football Fans! A new game is coming to Hawaii and it’s called Gridiron with a style and flare that you have never seen before at a football game. The World Gridiron Association and the Hawaii Gridiron League presents an 8 team battle for local football supremacy. These 8 teams will represent the various communities of Hawaii and compete in 11 weeks of gridiron play until a champion is crowned. At the end of the season the top players from the league will be assembled as one to represent Hawaii in Global Gridiron Competition with games being hosted in Hawaii and other international cities. It’s all being headed by HGL Commissioner Ashley Lelie and an 8 man ownership group including former University of Hawaii Football Players Darrick Branch, Tony Godinet, Phil Nasca, Matt Faga and Chris Teves. Also joining the ownership team is former Boise State Running back Davy Malaythong, International Soccer Coach and Business Developer Christian Serino and former Waipahu Football Star David Lomavita. It’s a league established according to the expectations of our players and on the standards seen and experienced by those who have played on the highest level.

NBA Season Update

National Basketball Association

The NBA is back and well under way heading into the All Star Game. The Mavericks haven’t found the chemistry yet after losing key players on last year’s championships team including defensive leader Tyson Chandler. Until they do all of the pressure remains on the shoulders of Dirk Novitski and Jason Terry who aren’t quite yet in their traditional regular season form.

Mean while the Heat are off to a good start as there off season pickups have shown to be productive ones thus far.

Durant and Westbrook have the Thunder looking as exciting as they were last season. The question still remains do they have the down low presence to advance further in the playoffs.

After a tough end to last season for the Spurs they are surprisingly in the top tier again and showing they can play with the best every night. Many speculated that last season was the end of those players together, but ownership said differently and has granted the seemingly ageless team one more run at a title together.

And of Course there’s Kobe and the Los Angeles Lakers who are starting to match their styles of play with the new scheme and getting wins. Kobe has also hit another milestone passing Shaquille Oneal on the NBA’s Top 5 Scorers of All Time. Question mark on the Lakers is can they get the scheme perfected in time to get a top seed in the West and make another Championship run to add to Kobe’s accolades?

The spotlight is on the LA Clippers who are right now the team to see with the new additions like Chris Paul, who was finally set free by Commissioner David Stern and the New Orleans Hornets, Chauncey Billups and Curran Butler who was with the Defending Champion Dallas Mavericks last season . They call themselves Lab City as night after night they entertain the crowd with dunk after dunk while also piling up significant wins. A veteran point guard like Paul is vital for a championship run, but can the rest of the team mature fast enough to deal with the challenges of playoff basketball?

Hawaii High School Athletic Association

Kahuku Red Raiders take home the Division I State Championship. It feels like karma when you look back on what the Kahuku Red Raiders went through the past two years as a football program and community. The ridicule that came with the cheating allegations and being denied to play for a title which you feel you have rightfully earned seemed unfair to the young men who battled week after week for their team hoping to play for a championship.

That pain can now be put to rest as it was used as the fuel that motivated the Red Raiders and their community who all stuck together to overcome it all and bring home the 2011 HHSAA State Football Championship to the North Shore.

Mahalo for the great season, the memories of the journey and a job well done! Congratulations Kahuku Red Raiders from Hawaii Team Sports!

1st Place and Officially the Kings of Flags goes to The Barbarians from the West Side who took home the Title and the Cash!

The latest news on the Hawaii Professional Football League is that the Honolulu Volcanoes and Kailua Storm have decided to part ways with the league due to irreconcilable differences between the parties. The Volcanoes and Storm felt that the lack of organizational changes would only lead to more concerns and as a result have joined forces with key businessmen and sports identities to start a new and exciting league that will hit the field in March or 2012. Stay tuned as press conferences, advertisements and tryouts will be scheduled in the upcoming months. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you all in 2012.
