In the Div II HHSAA Boys State Soccer Finals it came down to the battle of neighbor islands as Kapa’a faced off against Hawaii Prep. The Ka Makani of Hawaii Prep struck first on a 25 yard blast from Korey Tsubota in the 6th minute of play. Kapa’a answered back in the 17th minute after a foul committed by Hawaii Prep outside the penalty box gave Ikaika Fuerte a direct kick that he conveted tieing the game up at 1-1. The Warriors of Kapa’a took the lead as Fuerte gave a lead pass to Caleb Sarsona where he out raced defenders and slamed a the ball past the goal tender to go ahead 2-1. Fuerte added his 2nd and game clinching score in the 50th minute of play to solidify the win and the 2009 State Soccer Championship for Kapa’a.
