Gib Arnold is the new Men’s Head Basketball Coach for the University of Hawaii. The Punahou alumnus and former USC Assistant returns home to see if he can turn around the UH Hoops program. Knowing of the disappointing season just experienced by Rainbow fans, the question emerging from the basketball community is is Arnold the right guy for the job and can he take Raibow Warrior Basketball to the next level? With credentials that include Pepperdine, Vanderbilt, Loyola Marymount and University of Southern California, the well traveled coach has probably picked up a few tricks of the trade that help him be effective. The challenge for Coach Arnold is can he effectively recruit the players needed to vault the UH Hoop program to the level that UH fans deserve? It all starts now for Arnold as he immediatley hits the recruiting trail looking to feel some holes left behind by departing seniors.  Stay tuned……

The University of Hawaii  men’s basketball team ended it’s 2009-2010 season 10-20, (3-13) but was it worth Coach Bob Nash losing his job as the program’s head coach? Yes, the university did say that Coach Nash’s contract could be extended if he met their performance clause which means winning 18 games and or qualifying for the WAC post season tournament. No the team did not have a winning season nor did they qualify for the conference tournament, but we’re talking about Bob Nash, member of the Fab 5 team that put the University of Hawaii Hoops program on the map, and the man who served 2 1/2 decades waiting for his opportunity behind Riley Wallace. Coach Bob Nash was not just any other UH Coach, he’s forever linked to the University because of the historical achievements he played a major role in as a player. Where’s the loyalty from the administration to a man who has given so much to the University of Hawaii?

I’m sure Coach Nash was not pleased with the outcome of this season but what was to be expected from a team that was decimated by injuties from the beginning of the season when team captain Bill Amis was lost for the season with a food injury then later losing your starting guard for the duration to hernia surgery? What we know now is that the Nash era is over and now the Bows are in search of a new leader. Who ever the new coach may be, we hope he’s ready to deal with the environment that comes with being the Head Basketball Coach at the University of Hawaii.

Stay tuned….
